sophie digard creations
Sophie Digard has been designing exquisite fashion and lifestyle accessories from her Parisian studio since 1999. One cannot help be drawn to Sophie’s work. Each piece can be distinguished by her delicate and truly unique approach to both pattern and colour.
Inspired by the infinite variation of organic elements found in nature, but also by memories of her childhood and by her travels, Sophie designs pieces that are veritable wearable works of art. From curious crocheted flowers with velvety soft buds, tiny woollen pompoms, or contemporary abstract patterns; her collection of designs is vast as it is diverse. Admirers often comment that her work is reminiscent of great artists such as Klimt. Indeed, some would argue that Sophie is, above all, a master colourist. She sources the finest natural materials - predominately single ply Australian merino wool spun in Italy, fine Belgian linen and natural Madagascan raffia – that are dyed to her specifications in a range of carefully selected colours. Each piece is then composed of a multitude of different shades (up to 60 different shades in some scarves!) - threads or fibres plyed together and then crocheted or woven to create pieces with an astounding subtle variation of tone that is so exceptional to her work.
Sophie Digard is best know for her range of crocheted fine wool and fine linen scarves, but her collections also include necklaces, bags, embroidered stoles, brooches, children's toys and accessories, and more recently, raffia hats and bags. A distinguishing feature unifying these products is the incredible intricacy and workmanship evident in each piece. Indeed, the skill set and delicacy necessary to produce work of this finesse is quite extraordinary… How does she achieve this? Her specially coloured wool, linen threads and raffia fibres are crafted into these masterpieces by her team of very talented artisans in her atelier in Madagascar. By honing these women’s traditional handiwork skills and providing stable employment, her workshops provide a valuable source of income and stability to local communities and help promote and preserve their textile heritage.
We have been proudly representing Sophie Digard Creations in the Australian and New Zealand markets since 2008. We have a loyal and stable community of stockists across these two countries - from high end fashion boutiques, art galleries, contemporary craft shops and lifestyle stores…. Each stockist is encouraged to select styles and colourways that best reflect their customer's base and all products are made to order for each boutique.
At racines we think there is still room to grow with Sophie's range of raffia bags, totes and cross-body bags, even for stores who do not carry the rest of her work. The workmanship in these bags is astounding, and the beautifully nuanced colourways are second to none. Quite simply, the possibilities are endless.
