Tactile coloured cord, juxtaposed with hand hammered charms in gold, silver and aged silver...together with semi-precious stones...the raw, the subtle nuances in colours and the beauty in the detail...Mary's jewellery has it all.
Mary Gaitani is the designer behind the brand Mary Gaitani Contemporary Jewellery which was established in 2013.
Mary was born in Athens. She studied Architecture at ‘NTUA’ in Athens, Monument Restoration at ‘La Sapienza’ in Rome, and worked as a freelance architect for more than 15 years in the field of renovations and interior design. Her journey into jewellery began as an outlet for her restless artistic spirit. She went on to study jewellery design at 'Alchimia' in Florence.
.
I met Mary at the Who's Next trade fair in Paris in January 2020. Her collection caught my eye for it's vibrant yet refined colour palette and interesting combination of materials. The two mediums which are the most predominant in her work are sterling silver and gold plated sterling silver. She also incorporates precious and semi precious stones into her jewellery...using colored cord as the all important textural and colourful element that brings the pieces together.
Her jewellery is entirely hand made by her team of artisans in Greece. The brand is stocked in boutiques around the world and we think it brings something fresh and unique to the Australian market. Indeed she tells me that Australians are some of her best customers in her boutiques in Greece.
.
All Mary Gaitani's creations are made to order for each and every stockist. Her collection includes bracelets, necklaces, rings and earrings. Retailers are entirely free to select their favourite designs, and have them custom made with their choice of coloured cord, semi-precious stones, and charms made from either sterling silver, aged sterling silver, or gold plated sterling silver. The different combinations are endless and will appeal to many different customers, both men and women. Indeed, Mary makes has an entire range especially for men using aged sterling silver.

According to Mary, "Life is a constant journey and creation is the way of making it happen".
